Charles Mound (IL) Peak #7

Late in posting this, but over the 4th of July my parents and I road tripped down  to Illinois to do their highest peak.  Charles Mound is 1,235 feet and ranks 45th in order of state elevation.  The high point is one of the few located on private land; the owners are nice enough to open their property up to high pointers and tourists the first weekend of the month June through September.  To be honest, it's a pretty uneventful experience.  We parked out on the main road and walked about a mile up their really long driveway to get the top.  There were a handful of people checking out the site while we were there; one group of older gents said this was their 27th high point.  Kinda fun to be "part" of this club.

Here are some photos of the conquest of my 7th peak!

View from the top.

Best group shot we got, even though they cut off my dad's head.

We also did a family kayak excursion while we were there.  About a 4-5 mile paddle down a very tame river/stream.  Some areas were so shallow you had to work to get your kayak to scoot through.  Nonetheless, my poor dad managed to flip his kayak and end up in the water.  Super funny, but then also kind of traumatic as it was a real struggle to get his kayak emptied and back in.
Being silly....before he fell out of his kayak.

More bravery, fun and games before the capsizing.

The silver lining...his old flip phone drowned in the accident, so Nick has officially entered the 21st century and has an iPhone now!
